Hi PYL,

Welcome to this forum.

A few musings/remarks.
  • What part of France are you from? France is rather big and has a lot of different geografical area's.
  • Only Alleweder, or velomobiles in general?

I am located in south of Britany near Vannes and the Golfe du Morbihan, a really nice place, with amazing places to visit by bike.

My experience with Vélomobile / Trikes / recumbent-bike is too small for now, I only tried a Leiba X stream.
I am finding velomobiles really fun and curious, but specially I am interested in the Alleweder because it is not in composites : it is then modifiable more easily.

My target is to find a way to take my 3 years old son with me and without bying a quattrovelo it seems the modification of an alleweder is realy one of the best options, what do you think ?

PS : if anyone has a "project Alleweder" in the barn taking the dust please tell me ! I love the renewable/durability approach of this velomobile

Hello, bonjour PYL,

A French guy modified an Alleweder to transport his child.

Good area to drive a velomobile or recumbent.

On modifying excisting commercial velomobiles/recumbents. It's possible, but I rather go the Atomic Zombie route, and start from scratch.

Welcome

Long ago I owned an Alleweder (A2 by Flevobike). As to modifying it is an interesting machine: I added an electric assistance to mine, but that was not an easy task. It did work, though.
On the other hand: velomobiles have come a long way since then. Driving efficiency, driving characteristics, riding noises... I think most Alleweders are really old and the aluminium skin probably has become brittle. And in the end you don't know yet (I think) if your son is going to like it. Budget plays a big part most of the times, as does the necessary space, but I'd start with a more recent velomobile to find out if it is really something for you.

By the way: I do like the region where you live. I've been to the Presqu'île de Rhuys on several occasions, once by velomobile starting from home and on other occasions with a recumbent bike or trike on the back of my car. Very nice for touring.

i have 2 alleweders.
have been driving my orange one since 2016. had quite some work to do, but after all those upgrades, it drives so well, i don't want to change it with another one.
but because its one of the first and parts are difficult to find, i bought a second younger one (grey) for daily driving.

BUT... the newer one doesn't drive good at all and can't get it to drive like my old orange one.

alleweders have some issues with the body. the bottom is to weak making it crumble when you brake hard. the top mounts for the suspension of the front wheels is also to weak, and when corning/braking fast the front mount of the suspension will break off.
if these issues are fixed/strenghened, they drive fine and reliable
